Dominican curator Yina Jiménez participates in the India Art Fair 2025

New Delhi

Dominican curator Yina Jiménez Suriel participated in the 2025 edition of the India Art Fair (IAF), the most important modern and contemporary art fair in India. Since its establishment in 2008, the fair has become a fundamental artistic platform in South Asia, bringing together an increasing number of galleries, artists, foundations, and national and international institutions with the aim of showcasing contemporary Indian and global art, fostering art education, and supporting artists, galleries, and emerging initiatives. In the few years since its founding, the fair has facilitated dialogue between different artistic languages, with projects featuring digital and outdoor art, design, and a performing arts section.

In this context, the distinguished Dominican curator and researcher Yina Jiménez participated on February 9th in the discussion panel "The Present and Future of Curating: Voices from Around the World," an exchange between Jiménez and curators Zasha Colah (Curator, 13th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, 2025), Tarini Malik (Curator, Contemporary Art, Royal Academy of the Arts, London & Shane Akeroyd Associate Curator of the British Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale 2024), Prabhakar Kamble (Independent Curator, Artist, Cultural Activist, Convener of the Secular Art Movement, India), and Joyoti Roy (Assistant Director, Projects and Public Relations & Lead Curator, Ancient World Project, CSMVS Museum, Mumbai, India). The discussion focused on the debates, expectations, and challenges of curatorial practice and reflection, the progressive dissolution of traditional boundaries (spatial, conceptual and formal), and the transformations that curatorship and curatorial practice have undergone in recent years.

During her stay in India, the curator also visited Jaipur, in the state of Rajasthan, to explore the programs and initiatives surrounding contemporary art at the Jaipur Center for Art (JCA), founded by HH Sawai Padmanabh Singh and Noelle Kadar. Since its opening in the City Palace of Jaipur in 2024, the JCA has become a relevant art patronage initiative in the Indian subcontinent.

Suriel, who specialized in Art History and Visual Culture at the University of Valencia, Spain, has co-curated the Opening section of ARCOmadrid 2023 and 2024; served as Curator of The Current IV (2023-2025) by TBA21-Academy, and has been Associate Editor of Contemporary And (C&) for Latin America and the Caribbean as well as Adjunct Curator of the 14th Bienal do Mercosul (2025).

The participation of curator Jiménez in the most recent edition of the India Art Fair was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of the Dominican Embassy in India, as part of a collaboration with the India Art Fair.
