Rajkamal Prakashan releases Rita Indiana Hernández’s novel Papi in Hindi
New Delhi – Rajkamal Prakashan released on 15th February Rita Indiana Hernández’s novel Papi in Hindi, as part of a collaborative project between the Embassy of the Dominican in India and Rajkamal Prakashan.
Born in 1977, Rita Indiana Hernández is considered one of the most innovative contemporary writers from the Dominican Republic. Her novels and short stories have been received to great acclaim across the Spanish speaking world, and have been translated to English, French, Italian and German, amongst other languages. Rita Indiana Hernández is also an accomplished musician, known for her bold lyrics and her genre-bending use of traditional rhythms.
Papi has been translated to Hindi by Maneesha Taneja who has also published with Rajkamal Prakashan several Gabriel Garcia Marquez translations, including One Hundred Years of Solitude and Chronicle of a Death Foretold. The book includes an introduction by Ambassador David Puig, and an essay on the translation process by Maneesha Taneja.
On the occasion of the release of the publication Ambassador Puig stated that “Papi by Rita Indiana Hernández is the first book by a Dominican author to enter the prestigious catalog of Rajkamal. As an admirer of Rita Indiana Hernández it has been an honour and a pleasure to support the translation of one of her works in Hindi and to work with Ashok Maheswari from Rajkamal in this project”.
