Minister Jaishankar participate in the celebration of 25 Years of India-Dominican Republic Relations
Delhi - The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in India commemorated the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and the Dominican Republic with an evening dedicated to the friendship between the two countries.
The event, held on 7th May at the Imperial Hotel in New Delhi, was graced by Dr. S. Jaishankar, India’s Minister of External Affairs, whose attendance as the chief guest of the evening underscored the significance of the growing ties between India and the Dominican Republic.
The ceremony commenced with a poignant moment as attendees observed a minute of silence in memory of Hans Dannenberg Castellanos, the first Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to India, whose pioneering efforts in establishing and nurturing the relationship between the two countries are fondly remembered in the diplomatic community in Delhi.
Ambassador David Puig expressed that during the tenure of Minister S. Jaishankar “Latin America and the Caribbean have taken a new meaning for Indian foreign policy” with “regular visits to the region, increased trade and cooperation, and the opening of new missions, amongst them the embassy of India in the Dominican Republic.”
In his address, Minister of External Affairs, S. Jaishankar highlighted the deepening of ties between India and the Dominican Republic in the recent years. He recalled “the unique contribution of Ambassador Hans Dannenberg Castellanos…who served as the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps”. He also thanked the Dominican Republic authorities for their support for Operation Indravati that evacuated Indian citizens from Haiti.
The evening was a vibrant celebration of Dominican culture, with a menu specially curated by Dominican Chef Addys Jacquez, and a degustation of rum and cigars. The rhythms of bachata infused the occasion with the cultural vibrancy of the Dominican Caribbean soul.
