Dominican Professionals Complete a Certificate Course in Artificial Intelligence in New Delhi
Delhi - Twelve professionals from various Dominican institutions, including the Office of Information Technology and Communication (OGTIC), the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX), and the Central Bank, completed in July 2024 a two-week Certificate Course in Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) in New Delhi.
The Dominican Republic launched in October 2023 its National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence with the objectives of nurturing an AI ecosystem in the country. The certificate course for Dominican citizens held at CDAC aligns with the national efforts to train professionals for a knowledge-based economy and to develop AI based solutions to improve public services.
This significant capacity building initiative was made possible through the support of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program and the India Embassy in the Dominican Republic. The ITEC is the flagship bilateral assistance programme of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India. It is a demand-driven, response-oriented programme that focuses on addressing the needs of developing countries through innovative technological cooperation, training, exchange of technical know-how and expertise.
Since 2021, more than 75 Dominican professionals have travelled to India for specialized training in areas such as cybersecurity, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, nanosatellites, and diplomacy. These opportunities, facilitated by ITEC and various others cooperation schemes of the Indian Government, reflect the strong and growing partnership between India and the Dominican Republic.
