Dominican Republic and India Establish Joint Economic Trade Committee
Santo Domingo- On 12th March 2024, the Dominican Republic and India took a significant step towards enhancing their economic bilateral relations by signing an agreement to establish a Joint Economic Trade Committee (JETCO). The agreement was formalized in a ceremony held in Santo Domingo attended by high-level officials from both countries. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, H.E. Roberto Alvarez, and the Indian Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Ramu Abbagani, represented their respective nations. Their signatures on the agreement symbolize a shared commitment to fostering economic collaboration and exploring new avenues for mutual growth.
The primary objective of the JETCO is to create a structured platform for dialogue and cooperation between the Dominican Republic and India. By focusing on trade, services, and industrial technology, the committee seeks to identify and capitalize on opportunities that will benefit both nations. The areas of collaboration are expected to include, but are not limited to, the exchange of goods and services, the promotion of investment, and the sharing of technological advancements.
The JETCO Committee will convene annually, providing a regular forum for discussing and advancing economic relations. The committee will be co-chaired by the Vice Minister of Economic Affairs and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic and the Commerce Secretary of the Government of India. This high-level leadership underscores the importance both governments place on the success of the committee's initiatives.
