H.E. David Puig participates in the inauguration of the Protect our Planet Movement Conference
NEW DELHI - On the 4th June 2021, H.E. David Puig participated in the inauguration of the Protect our Planet Movement (POP) Conference and Festival for Youth Led Climate Action, 2021 edition. For its third edition, the POP Festival will gather online activists, academics, youth leaders and government officials from all around the world from the 5th to the 11th June.
Conceived by R.K. Pachauri, the POP movement is an international network that advocates and develops actions to empower the youth to have an active participation in addressing the issue of climate change. Since its inception, the Dominican Republic has established a strong working relation with its founder and its present director, Dr. Ash Pachauri.
Alan Ramirez, Technical Director, and Sara Gonzalez, Advisor for International Relations, from the National Council on Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism (NCCCDM) of the Dominican Republic were also present at the inauguration.
After the opening remarks by Dr. Ash Pachauri and the keynote address by Rosalía Arteaga, former president of Ecuador, H.E. David Puig intervention focused on the role the globalyouth can play for climate action and presented the initiatives taken by the Dominican Republic to integrate environmental education in the national schooling system. Vibha Dhawan, Director of TERI, recalled the inspiring attitude and vision of Dr. R.K. Pachauri with whom she had the opportunity to work. In her capacity as mentor of the POP movement for the Dominican Republic, Sara Gonzalez also shared her views on the urgency of climate action in the context of a global environmental crisis.
Combining conferences and workshops, the POP festival hosts this year a series of regional panels with the declared intention of “Celebrating Youth and Amplifying Regional Voices”. The sessions dedicated to Latin America and the Caribbean will take place on 7th and 8th June and will focus on environmental education, social technologies, renewable energies, sustainable management of natural resources, food security, youth and indigenous climate leadership.
