Dominican Republic represents the SIDS countries at the 6th CDRI Executive Committee meeting
New Delhi – On the 7th of September 2022, Ambassador David Puig participated in the 6th Executive Committee meeting of the Coalition for Development of Resilient Infrastructures (CDRI). In August 2022 the Dominican Republic accepted the responsibility to represent, for a period of two years, the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) members of the CDRI at the Executive Committee of the organization.
Held in a hybrid format, the meeting was headed by Kamal Kishore, Secretary at the National Disaster Management Authority of India, and Veena Reddy, Director of USAID in India, in their capacity of co-chairs of the CDRI. Mr. Amit Prothi, Director General of the CDRI, and senior members of his team were also present at the CDRI headquarters.
The Executive Committee of the CDRI is composed by ten members, each representing the different constituencies of the CDRI. For the period 2022-2023 it will include India, United States, Ghana, Australia, Brazil, France and the Dominican Republic, as well as representatives of the International Organizations members of the CDRI and the Secretariat of the CDRI.
In December 2021, the Dominican Republic joined the CDRI becoming its 28th member. Led by the Government of India, the CDRI is a global alliance of governments, United Nations agencies, development banks, and the private sector, with the mission to promote the resilience of infrastructure systems against climate risks and natural disasters.
Under the leadership of The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, CDRI has become one of India's main initiatives in the fight against global warming and the effects of climate change.
