NEW DELHI – On the 18th March 2021, the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Republic of India, H.E. Davig Puig, presented his Letter of Credence to the President of India, H.E. Ram Nath Kovind, in a virtual ceremony held from the Ministry of External Affairs of India, in observance of the Indian Government’s protocol given the present sanitary crisis.

During his address Ambassador Puig highlighted the excellent state of the relation between Dominican Republic and India, and the fertile ground for further development. He also stressed the need of redoubling the efforts in terms of trade and investment and of strengthening the cooperation exchange in the domains of health, science, technology, higher education and culture. He also took advantage of the opportunity to convey, on behalf of the Dominican people and President, the heartfelt appreciation for all the cooperation received from the Government of India during the present sanitary crisis.

On his turn, the President of India, H.E. Ram Nath Kovind, expressed his appreciation for the support his country has received in the multilateral arena and made emphasis on the good relations between both nations. Proof of the latter, he stated, is the announcement of the opening of an Indian Embassy in Santo Domingo in 2021.

After the ceremony H.E. Puig expressed that the Dominican Republic is highly interested in strengthening its relations with India. “I look forward to, once again, serving as a bridge between our nations. Having spent 4 years working in New Delhi and having travelled extensively in India, I have seen first-hand Indian’s richness and potential. For me, and my team, it is sincerely an honour to continue fostering our partnership”.

David Puig joined the Dominican Foreign Service in 2004. Throughout his diplomatic career, he has worked in both bilateral and multilateral settings, and has represented the Dominican Republic in negotiations and international fora.
