Opening of the literary cycle “Voces de la República Dominicana”

NEW DELHI - The literary cycle “Voces de la República Dominicana” (Voices from the Dominican Republic), started on the 21st October 2021 with the presentation of the Dominican writer Frank Báez.

This series of on-line presentations, organized  by the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in India and the Cervantes Institute in New Delhi, aims to introduce to the Spanish speaking community in India an updated picture of the literature being produced in the Dominican Republic.

Speaking to EFE news agency before the event, Ambassador David Puig explained that the literature of the Dominican Republic is known in India  through the works of some classic authors or for a few writers whose book have attained global outreach. With this cycle, he stated, “we want to go beyond” and present writers who are building “a consistent body of work from a contemporary perspective”.

The three participants writers are Johan Mijail who, according to Puig, mixes “activism and creation, and uses literature to give voice to marginalized subjects”; Josefina Báez, whose work has been in a “constant dialog with India”; and the poet Frank Báez, who launched the series.
