India and the DR share experiences on the preparation of their next population censuses

New Delhi – On the 28th September 2021, the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in India coordinated an on-line exchange held between the office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India and the National Bureau of Statistics of the Dominican Republic. This technical exchange was conceived to create the space for both institutions to present the ongoing preparations for their respective next decennial census, which are planned to be held in the course of the year 2022. 

The Dominican delegation was led by Mrs. Miosotis Rivas Peña, General Director, National Bureau of Statistics (ONE). She was accompanied by members of her team and representatives from the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD). Mr. Sanjay, Additional Registrar General, headed the Indian delegation.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador David Puig expressed his satisfaction for the conduction of this first work meeting between the institutions in charge of the population census in India and the Dominican Republic. In their presentations, both countries shared their census methodologies and highlighted the work done to integrate for the first time the use of digital technologies for the capture and the processing of the housing and population data.

Both entities, the office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India and the National Bureau of Statistics of the Dominican Republic, recognized the importance of maintaining an open communication channel. They also agreed to convene again in order to share their experiences after the realization of their upcoming censuses.
